About Me

Well, my work tells you all about me....After growing up in Germany I came to New York in 1968 as an aupair and began my artistic journey at the Pels Art School located in the marvelous Ansonia Hotel on Manhattan's Westside. After some basics I gathered  my courage and signed up at The Art Students League of New York, where I joined different studios over the years. My favorite teachers were Marshall Glasier, Ken McIndoe and Frank O'Cain.  I am  greatfull for the help and encouragement I received.  For the past years I have worked independently and feel in this constant flow of life and images and ideas and I try to catch and hold on to a few moments and pieces of our wonderful natural world....I am a Founding (and participating)  Member of "The Sketchgroup" (drawing the life model) on Roosevelt Island in New York where my Musician- husband  Lawrence V. Harris and I raised our two children. We recently moved to the Rockaway Peninsula which is a very  inspiring location.....  Thanks for visiting, feedback is appreciated.  Peace, Doris T. Harris
P.S. FAVORITES:
State of mind: IN AWE
Word: BEAUTIFUL!
Movie: MIND WALK
Music: The Alpine Symphony by Richard Strauss
Poetry: Rabindranath Tagore's:
" The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.
It is the same life that shoots through the dust of the earth in numberless blades of grass and breaks into tumultuous waves of leaves and flowers.
It is the same life that is rocked in the ocean-cradle of birth and of death, in ebb and in flow.
I feel my limbs are made glorious by the touch of this world of life.
And my pride is from the life-throb of ages dancing in my blood this moment. "
